Urgent Eye Examination
If you have an urgent eye problem, you can be evaluated at our clinic immediately and without any waiting list through the “urgent eye examination” service by appointment at Ponticello Eye Clinic.
Symptoms
These are the symptoms that justify an urgent eye examination:
- Eye redness
- Sudden eye pain
- Sudden eye pain after contact lens removal
- Sudden vision loss
- Sudden temporary vision loss
- Appearance of cobwebs and/or floaters in the visual field (myodesopsia)
- Appearance of flashes of light in the visual field (photopsia)
- Sudden appearance of dark areas in the visual field (scotomas)
- Sudden image distortion
- Suspected foreign objects in the eye
- Contact with irritating chemicals
How to access the urgent eye examination
If you exhibit one or more of the aforementioned symptoms, you can contact our center by phone and request an urgent eye examination.
The examination will be performed immediately or within a few hours. However, if you have sustained a major eye trauma with eyelid and/or ocular tissue laceration, we advise you to go to the nearest emergency room as immediate surgery may be required.
What does an urgent eye examination involve?
The urgent eye examination is focused on the evaluation and resolution of the immediate problem only and does not include the assessment of all ocular parameters typically evaluated during a routine eye examination (for example: in the case of a foreign body in the eye, the service includes the removal of the foreign body and dressing, but does NOT include other assessments such as vision measurement, eye pressure, etc.).
This examination is therefore not a substitute for a routine eye examination and does not rule out the presence of ocular conditions that are not directly related to the urgent problem that prompted the visit.
Costs, booking methods, and execution procedures.
The examination has a cost of €100, which includes any necessary medication and/or treatment.
To book an urgent eye examination, you must contact the Ponticello Eye Clinic by phone at 0585/41847, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Please book your appointment by phone and DO NOT go to the Eye Clinic without a reservation.
The examination will be performed immediately or within a few hours, depending on the regular activity of the clinic.
The emergency service is available Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Behavioral guidelines
The urgent examination is a service aimed at promptly and effectively addressing the urgent eye problems of patients, ensuring excellence even in critical situations.
Out of respect for patients with a genuine ocular emergency, we kindly ask you not to use this service unless there is a real and objective medical urgency (for example: an eye examination for an expiring driver’s license does not constitute an emergency).
For non-urgent services, a routine service is always available, provided by one of the specialists at the Eye Clinic, which guarantees the execution of any medical and/or instrumental services within 48 hours of booking.

Ponticello Eye Clinic is located in Massa (MS) at Via Ponticello Sud 4.
It is situated within the Ponticello Medical Center building, the leading diagnostic medical center in Upper Tuscany for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
The clinic offers ample parking in the basement of the building and is equipped with all the necessary structural modifications to facilitate access for patients with reduced mobility.
